turmeric-for-dogs-with-cancer

Turmeric is a proven anticancer herb.

Dogs get cancer, too. It may be difficult for owners to watch their canine pals suffer from this possibly fatal disease, but natural treatments are available to complement conventional ones.

Safe Herbs For Dogs

Turmeric is considered a safe tonic herb for dogs with cancer. Other herbs and therapeutic foods considered safe for dogs include red clover, burdock root, alfalfa, dandelion, milk thistle, echinacea, garlic, green tea, ginger and certain therapeutic mushrooms.

Active Ingredient

The active ingredient in turmeric believed to be responsible for its anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties is curcumin.

Anticancer Properties

The British Journal of Cancer published a study on the effects of turmeric on cancer. It found curcumin inhibited further growth of cancer cells and triggered self-destruct mechanisms in the cells themselves. Some effects were seen in as little as 24 hours.

Turmeric as an Anti-Inflammatory

If your dog suffers from arthritis on top of cancer, or is experiencing painful inflammation during treatment, turmeric may help relieve some of the pain; curcumin is also an excellent anti-inflammatory.

Administering Turmeric

Administering turmeric is usually as simple as sprinkling it in your pooch's food. If your dog is having trouble eating, or simply doesn't like it, consider using capsules.
