Alternative Charity Gifts

Donation gifts vary depending on preferences for charities.

Giving gifts or money to charities helps out those in need while also providing a heart-warming feeling in the giver. Alternative charity gifts are items purchased with a part of the proceeds donated to various charities; they can also include gifts of monetary donation in someone's name to a charitable organization.

Charity Cards

For the holidays, birthday, weddings or any other celebration or event where an individual or group is sent cards, buying a charity card is an alternative charity gift option. Charity cards are made available through several organizations. When the cards are purchased, a portion of the proceeds are given to a specific charity. The card is sent to the family member or friend. This provides a gift for the family and a donation at the same time.

Send Livestock

A gift of livestock is on option for an alternative charity gift sent on behalf of a family member or friend. Programs are available which send livestock like cows to individuals or villages in need of the benefits which come with the cow or livestock, like milk. The family member or friend gets a card telling about the donation given on his behalf.

Gift Fair

Buy gift cards at a charitable gift fair. A charity gift fair is similar to a swap meet in design with various small booths set up. The difference is that the fair offers gift cards for donations given to the charity. Different charity organizations set up booths explaining the causes; select any preferred charity and then make a donation. The donation is given to the charity and a card is given to the donor. The card has the name of the individual on whose behalf the donation was provided. The fairs typically advertise in the local newspapers around a month or so before the fair takes place.

Educational Gifts

Another gift option involves helping to defray educational costs. Programs include obtaining textbooks for schools which are unable to afford books, parental health education, or even money to help set up schools in areas which do not have schools available. Some charities will accept gifts like computers or textbooks as well as money. The charity fills out a card in the name of the loved one on whose behalf the gift was given. The card is sent to the loved one and the donation is used to buy books or other educational materials to various countries around the world.
