Boost Estrogen

Birth Control

There are several reasons you might want to boost your estrogen levels. Perhaps your pituitary gland is malfunctioning and you need extra hormone to balance your reproductive system, or maybe you want to get pregnant but your doctor tells you that your estrogen levels are too low. Many women also require hormone supplements during menopause, or to help regulate their periods. Whatever the case, estrogen is the most important female sex hormone and has been connected to everything from pregnancy to memory.

Instructions

1. Understand that your doctor might be able to prescribe a medication that can help you boost estrogen levels. Both oral and transdermal (through the skin) supplements are available to stimulate estrogen production and to replace hormones that are not produced naturally in the body.

2. Gain weight. Malnourishment will stop estrogen production in your body, so if you have allowed your body fat percentage to dip too low, you could be losing valuable hormones. Talk to your doctor about your weight as well as your eating habits, and determine if your diet and subsequent weight loss could be a factor.

3. Eat plenty of wheat and soy. These natural food products have been linked with estrogen production in several studies, and might help to boost your hormone levels. However, you should know that food cannot correct a severe deficiency of essential hormones, so make sure you discuss diet changes with your doctor.

4. Obtain a birth control prescription. This contraceptive is used to decrease the chances of pregnancy, but it also helps to regulate and metabolize estrogen in the female body. You should also know that while some birth control medications contain both estrogen and progesterone, some contain only the latter, so talk to your doctor about which is right for you.

5. Consider over-the-counter estrogen supplements. This is a popular option for people who prefer natural or holistic options to the more conventional methods of boosting hormones. These products usually contain herbs and proteins that aid in the process of producing estrogen and other female hormones, and are often less expensive that other treatments.

Tips Warnings

Never try to boost your estrogen levels without the supervision of a doctor.

Follow the directions for estrogen supplements exactly. Too much or too little could through your entire reproductive system off.

Understand that male bodies are much different from female bodies, and that special considerations might apply for men using estrogen for hormone replacement therapy in the transgender process.
