Genie intellicode screw door opener problem

Genie Intellicode screw door opener problem

Today my opener went beyond the limit switch at first on the open then it started on the close. Then it started to struggle opening but not the close then even now on closing. The motor turns and the screw but only if not under load. No grinding noises. The door moves freely manually. At first the force adjustment screw made some difference but now not at all. An online review is pointing to the Sequence Circuit board. Does anyone agree or have other ideals. I don't want to buy the board and it end up being a clutch (not sure if my model even has a clutch?). Thank you for any help. Probably the first thing to do is to clean up or replace the limit switch. Some of the Genie's have a coupler which joins the screw to the motor. It is a plastic or nylon part and the slot for the screw can deform to the point of free wheeling if the limit switch does not turn off the motor. If the trolley rides back and forth on the rail with the door detached, but cannot pull or push the door when attached, that would be my replacement part of choice. Only about $7. Thank you Goldstar. You were right on. When I diagnosed the problem I didn't hear a grinding sound so I thought the mechanical portion was ok and assumed electrical. I popped the coupler out and saw the inside was plastic and trashed. The opener sounded different but not a grind. The plastic threw me off with my bad ears. I replaced the coupler and cleaned the limit switch back to nice and shinny. I will need to keep my eye on them since I live in Florida and the humidity is a killer in the summer. THANK YOU AGAIN. Well it look looks like the coupler wasn't my only problem. It appears the coupler was trashed because the door won't stop at neither the up or down limit switchs. I thought it was fixed because I would only have an occasional problem with the door going back up and thought it only needed a force adjustment. Now it clearly doesn't stop at either limit switch. Could both limit switches go bad at the same time? If not any help would be appreciated. Maybe a board? If so which one? Bummed. Update - prior to changing the coupler I cleaned the limit switchs with contact cleaner. Now I told a more aggressive approach and used a file and all contact points are shiney new. One day of frequent use and all is good. Hope it stays that way. If not I will report. Thanks for viewing. Ahhh I meant to reply this morning. They are just simple copper contacts...a fine sandpaper or abrasive pad works just fine. Another poster found out the same thing, he cleaned the levers and housing, but not the actual contacts. Think of it like a penny.....do the cleaning each year when you clean adjust and lube where needed and it should last just fine. Thanks Gunguy45. I need to do a better job with my research searches. I tried but... It's funny I did all the maintenance a few months ago (no contact cleaning) and when I started having problems I thought maybe I should not have given it the attention. All this trouble was a good exercise. Now I know all the ins and out of its operation. Thank you again.
