Wedding planning, coordination and assistance is a multi-million dollar business that requires a specialized skill set, intense attention to detail and critical thinking in regard to event planning and client relations.
Considerations
The average wedding planner charges 10 percent of the client's wedding budget for her services. Budgets vary from region to region, city to city and range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more depending on the couple.
The Formula
The average wedding in the United States costs $25,000. While there are varying factors, a wedding planner can use this formula to calculate potential salary. Take the average wedding cost, and multiply by 10 percent, to determine the average planner charge per wedding. Multiply that amount by the number of weddings per year for total average salary.
Part-Time Planning
Working one or two weddings a month is considered part-time planning. Based on the average cost and utilizing the above formula, a part-time planner can earn between $40,000 and $60,000 per year.
Full-Time Planning
Full-time wedding planners can do several weddings per month during a busy season and just one or two during the slower months. If 30 weddings a year is the average number for a wedding planner, then planners can estimate a salary between $75,000--$90,000
Corporate
Many hotels, resorts and other outlets hire employees to exclusively plan weddings for them. These planners coordinate other events as well and are paid accordingly--typically about $50,000 per year.
