Make Seven Grain Cereal

Seven grain cereal is a healthy cereal containing a combination of seven grains.


Seven grain cereals provide a fiber-rich way to begin your day. A mixture of seven different grains, often combined with fruits and nuts for added flavor and nutrition, makes seven grain cereal a healthy breakfast food. Seven grain cereal can be enjoyed plain, with hot milk for a warm breakfast or can be added to muffins and other baked goods. While seven grain cereals are readily available at the grocery store and health food store, consider making your own seven grain cereal at home. This allows you to vary the cereal to meet your own tastes.


Instructions


1. Combine the oats, bran flakes, wheat germ, flax seed, wheat bran, oat bran and puffed corn in a large mixing bowl. Stir the seven grains together to combine them well and form the foundation of your seven grain cereal.


2. Golden raisins sweeten your seven grain cereal.


Add the raisins and dried cranberries to the seven grains and mix in with the wooden spoon. The dried fruit adds a sweet flavor and chewy texture to your seven grain cereal.


3. Almonds add a mild nut flavor to seven grain cereal.


Pour in the slivered raw almonds and raw sunflower seeds. These two ingredients give the cereal a nutty flavor and add protein to your breakfast cereal.


4. Sweeten your seven grain cereal further, if you prefer, by stirring in 1/4 cup brown sugar. Mix the brown sugar in thoroughly to lightly coat the cereal, fruits and nuts.


5. Store your homemade seven grain cereal in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
