Homemade Pancakes With Sweet Milk & Baking Powder

Pancakes are a popular breakfast food best served with syrup.

Pancakes are a popular breakfast food that can be topped with butter and syrup. Each pancake recipe differs in one way or another. Older pancake recipes use the term "sweet milk" in their ingredients list. This is a term that simply meant milk that wasn't buttermilk or sour cream. It is helpful to have a griddle when making pancakes. Some pancakes you make may have to be thrown out until you perfect the pancake-cooking process.

Instructions

1. Scoop out 2 tbsp. shortening into a microwaveable cup or bowl.

2. Put the cup or bowl into the microwave and heat it for 20 seconds. This will melt the shortening, which makes it easier to use.

3. Pour the shortening into a large mixing bowl.

4. Crack two eggs, and pour them into the mixing bowl.

5. Add 2 cups milk, 3 cups flour, 1 tsp. salt, 4 tsp. baking powder and 2 tbsp. sugar to the mixing bowl.

6. Whisk all of the ingredients together until it becomes a smooth mixture.

7. Heat up a griddle so it becomes very hot.

8. Pour the mixture a little bit at a time onto the griddle. You want the mixture to fall onto the griddle in a circular shape. The exact size of the circle depends on personal preference. Some people prefer large pancakes, and others like small pancakes.

9. Flip the pancake over with a spatula once you see that the underside of the pancake has cooked.

10. Move the pancake with a spatula to a plate once it has finished cooking.

11. Continue this process one pancake at a time until all of the pancake batter has been used.
