Organize A Refrigerator

Organizing a refrigerator means more than just knowing where everything is located. It maximizes space and maximizes the shelf life of the items stored in the refrigerator. Thus, it is important to keep a refrigerator in an organized state. The following will help you in your attempts to put the refrigerator in proper order.

Instructions

1. Remove all items from the refrigerator.

2. Sort everything into groups, such as produce, meats and dairy.

3. Place any item that does not have its own container in a see-through container. This will allow you to see the food items when searching through the refrigerator.

4. Throw away any item that is expired or has been cross-contaminated.

5. Throw away any food items that you know you will not consume before it spoils. For example, 2-week-old spaghetti is probably not going to be eaten at this point.

6. Stock the refrigerator according to designated compartments, such as Vegetables in the crisper and deli meat in its drawer.

7. Store your most perishable foods on the bottom shelf. It is cooler than the top shelf and will prolong the shelf life.

8. Read your refrigerator manual and set the temperature correctly.

9. Place jarred and glass items in the door. However, do not store milk or tube foods in the door.

10. Keep eggs in their carton. Although the refrigerator may have an egg compartment, eggs will stay fresh longer in their original cartons.
