Prepare Appetizers And Salads

Salad is an easy item to prepare as a first course to any meal.

Appetizers and salads are typical beginnings for any meal. Many of these items generally can be prepared ahead of time, allowing you to focus on the main meal while your guests are entertained with small plates and salads. To create a crowd-pleasing first course, choose your favorite salad and appetizer recipes and collect the ingredients. Try to make a variety of tastes to please all guests.

Instructions

1. First, choose your favorite recipes in a combination sure to please your guests. Collect the ingredients for these items from the store and decide how you are going to prepare them. For example, you may choose to make a dip and mix the ingredients ahead of time, leaving just the cooking for the day of serving. Some items will need to be prepared the day of the meal, such as a green salad.

2. Create a simple shrimp cocktail. Purchase cooked shrimp and, if frozen, defrost as recommended on the packaging. Serve in a glass dish with cocktail sauce. Shrimp cocktail is easily prepared and adds a fancy touch to the meal.

3. Plate cheese and crackers for your easiest appetizer. You can buy fancy cheeses like brie or just offer a cheese ball.

Serve with a knife or spreader, depending on the consistency of the cheese. Offer a variety of crackers, both in taste and shape. This can be an elegant and tasty first course.

4. For salad, purchase chopped lettuce, dressing, croutons, tomatoes, cheese, and other salad toppings you would like to add. Rinse the lettuce, tomatoes and any vegetables in a colander and place in a large bowl. Chop items into bite-size pieces and toss with croutons, cheese and dressing. Serve with tongs in small salad bowls or plates.
