Chocolate To Chili

Chocolate and cocoa powder can add an additional layer of depth to your favorite chili recipe. The bittersweet, rich flavor of chocolate enhances the spice and flavor of chili powder and chipotle pepper. Adding chocolate to chili is a secret used in some competition chili cook-offs. If you want to surprise your friends and family with a rich, deep chili, add cocoa powder and grated chocolate to your chili next chili recipe.


Instructions


1. Measure 2 tbsp. of cocoa powder for every 10 servings of your chili recipe. Add the cocoa powder after heating the initial liquid ingredients thoroughly. Stir the cocoa powder and broth base continuously until it dissolves.


2. Add 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon to the liquid ingredients once the cocoa powder dissolves. The cinnamon will add an earthy base to bring the chocolate out in the broth.


3. Grate 2 oz. of semi-sweet or bittersweet dark chocolate for every 10 servings of your chili recipe. Add the grated chocolate in the last five to 10 minutes of cooking, stirring well to melt it thoroughly. Serve the chili right away or refrigerate for up to three days.
