The Calories In A Caesar Side Salad

Caesar salad calories vary based on salad ingredients.

Caesar salad originated in Mexico in the 1920s. In 1953, the International Society of Epicures in Paris named the hearty salad with a tangy garlic flavor as the "greatest recipe to originate from the Americas in 50 years."

Ingredients

Caesar salad can be made with Romaine lettuce, coddled eggs, olive oil, garlic, red wine vinegar, croutons, parmesan cheese and anchovies. Anchovies can be excluded from the salad without altering its distinctive taste.

Calories

Traditional Caesar salad contains approximately 167 calories per cup, 125 calories of which come from the salad's fat content, according to FitDay. Caesar salad contains approximately 14 grams of fat, 5 grams of protein and 6 grams of carbohydrates.

Variations

The Mayo Clinic offers a version of the Caesar salad that includes skinless chicken breast to increase protein content. The dressing recipe calls for fat-free mayonnaise and fat-free Italian salad dressing instead of olive oil. Mayo Clinic's version contains approximately 200 calories per cup, but contains 25 grams of protein, 13 grams of carbohydrates and 8.5 grams of fat.
