Use A Coffee Maker Without A Filter

When you absolutely need your morning cup of joe, there's no time for running to the store for filters. If you've discovered that your stock of filters has been all used up, just follow these steps and improvise an effective solution.

Instructions

1. Open, clean and dry your coffee maker as you normally would before brewing a fresh pot.

2. Gather disposable paper materials that are similar to coffee filters in thickness, consistency and porousness. Paper napkins and paper towels are your best bets.

3. Determine which disposable paper materials would make the best coffee filter substitute. The best choice will be fairly porous and thin, but will hold together well and not break when moistened.

4. Once you have selected your material, cut or tear a square piece that is about one and a half times as big as the filter basket opening. Then press this layer down into the basket so that the bottom is completely covered and the sides are mostly covered.

5. Prepare your machine as usual by adding beans or grounds and water. Turn the machine on, but watch over the entire brewing process so that you can stop the machine if spilling or overflowing occurs.
