Marsala Sauce Ingredients

Marsala sauce is often used with pasta dishes containing chicken or veal. It is a thin sauce with a very rich flavor. It is named after the Marsala wine used in the recipe. Marsala sauce takes approximately 10 minutes to prepare and 15 minutes to cook. Once it is cooked you can use it to marinate the meat in the dish you are preparing. You can add it to the meat while it is cooking, or you can pour it over a completed dish.

Olive Oil

Buy pure olive oil at almost any grocery store. You will need 3 tbsp. for your Marsala sauce.

Garlic

Chop 1 tbsp. of garlic with a knife, not a garlic press. A garlic press is used to mince garlic, which also extracts the garlic juices. Chopped garlic holds in the garlic juice until it is heated and creates a different strength and flavor in food.

Mushrooms

Slice half a pound of white or portobello mushrooms. Be sure to clean the mushrooms well before slicing.

Flour

Use 3 tbsp. of flour, which will act as a thickening agent so the sauce isn't too runny.

Marsala Wine

Supply the main component of flavor to the sauce with the Marsala wine. Although it is primarily used for cooking, you will find Marsala wine in the alcohol section with the other wines.

Beef Stock

Add 1 1/2 cups of beef stock to the sauce. The beef stock will enrich the flavor of the sauce and help maintain the dark, rich color of the sauce.
