Pear Waldorf Salad

Always use ripe pears in the Waldorf salad recipe.


Waldorf salad is a sweet appetizer, traditionally prepared with apples, walnuts, celery and mayonnaise. Other fruits are commonly added to Waldorf salad as a variation of the traditional recipe. Pear Waldorf salad features the addition of grapes to complement the texture and flavor of the pears. Serve the pear Waldorf salad on a hot day as a sweet and cool summer treat. A basic pear Waldorf salad recipe yields four servings.


Instructions


1. Combine 3 tbsp. mayonnaise, 2 tbsp. sour cream, 1 tbsp. lemon juice and 1/8 tsp. salt in a salad bowl. Stir until the dressing is even in consistency.


2. Add 2 cups chopped pears, 1 cup red or green seedless grapes, 1 cup chopped red apples and 4 tbsp. chopped walnuts into the dressing. Stir until all ingredients are coated in a thin layer of the dressing.


3. Cover the salad bowl with a sheet of plastic wrap and chill for four hours.


4. Layer 1 cup of arugula on a plate or bowl and serve 1 cup of the pear Waldorf salad on the bed of greens.
