Make Your Own Signature Sauces

Signature sauces can spice up grilled meats.

Many cooks and food lovers take pride in their own signature sauces. Though some families pass down sauce recipes from generation to generations, others may choose to show their culinary creativity by experimenting with different flavors and ingredients to create a truly unique and flavorful signature sauce. Whether cooks decide to share their recipes with the world or keep them as their own family secrets, those who enjoy cooking will find making their own sauce simple and rewarding.

Instructions

1. Determine what kind of sauce you want to make. There are many types of sauce, each requiring different ingredients and recipes to make. Choices may include barbecue, dressing, cheese and marinara sauces.

2. Secure a recipe for the kind of sauce that you want to make. If desired, you can use a pre-made sauce as the base for your signature sauce. Or, you can create a sauce using a recipe that you have found or that you created yourself. Depending on the sauce, you may need to let it marinate, heat it over a burner or refrigerate it.

3. Taste the base of your signature sauce. Experiment by adding your own ingredients to the mix. Add seasonings and herbs as well, if desired. Examples of ingredients that you can add to customize your sauce include garlic, onion, vinegar, mustard, basil, curry, cumin, cinnamon and brown sugar.

4. Stir and taste the signature sauce. If desired, have a friend or family member taste and critique it. Make changes to the sauce if you think they are necessary. If the changes do not remedy all of the issues you have with the sauce, start over from the beginning, experimenting with different combinations of ingredients and seasonings until you find the combination that tastes the best to you.

5. Preserve your sauce and write down the recipe step by step so that you can recall it and recreate your signature sauce whenever you like. If you make changes to the sauce in the future, write those changes down as well.
