Create a Photo Collage Family Tree
The trend in modern society is toward less and less contact with extended family members. A photo collage family tree will ensure that your child stays familiar with her lineage and the relatives she sees infrequently, if ever. You will create a lasting work of art to cherish always.
Instructions
1. Research your family tree. You will need the first and last names of all relatives back to the child's great-grandparents. You may choose to include aunts and uncles as well. If your child is old enough to talk, you can let him help with this step. Any relatives you contact for information may see this as a nice way to get back in touch, rather than just a chore of giving you data.
2. Gather photographs of all the relatives you will be putting into your collage. Enlist help if need be, asking other relatives to share photos with you.
3. Plan your photo arrangement. Lay out the photos on top of the frame and arrange them in tree fashion. Your child's photo should be on the bottom--the "roots"--with mom and dad making the first "branches," and so on. Siblings can be added to fill up empty spots on the frame, or you can use additional frames for large "branches" of the family.
4. Place the pictures in the frame when you are satisfied with the arrangement.
5. Write each family member's first and last name below their photograph, using a calligraphy pen with archival-quality ink. (Refer to visual samples of the calligraphy style you wish to use.) Then secure the photos in the frame and hang it on your wall for all to see.
