Store Textured Soy Protein

Textured soy protein (TSP), also known as textured vegetable protein (TVP), is a food product made from soy flour and other vegetable extracts, which is compressed and dried into various shapes. The resulting product is high in fiber, contains the same amount of protein as meat, and is fat free. Most often, textured soy protein is used as a meat extender or a complete meat replacement because of its meat-like texture and nutritional value. Unlike meat, however, dried TSP can be stored for many months in an appropriate container.

Instructions

Storing Dry TSP

1. Fill container with TSP. Use a container size appropriate to the amount of TSP you have to minimize the air volume inside the container.

2. Seal the container airtight.

3. Store at room temperature or a cool temperature in a dry place, such as a cupboard. TSP can typically keep for several months to a year in this manner.

Storing Reconstituted TSP

4. Drain excess water (if any) from the reconstituted TSP and place the TSP into a container.

5. Seal the container airtight.

6. Store in the refrigerator for up to two or three days.
