Find Egyptian Food In New York City

Egyptian cuisine is delightful and exotic (to most Westerners), and it is based around heavy use of vegetables and legumes. It is very tasty, usually healthy, and very vegetarian and vegan friendly. This is because in Egypt, meat has historically been very expensive and therefore difficult to purchase for the average person. Egyptian cuisine is becoming increasingly more popular in the Western world, particularly in large cities like New York City. Here are some of the best places to dine on delicious Egyptian food in New York City.

Instructions

1. Dine at "Eastern Nights" on Steinway Street in Queens. Located on Astoria's bustling shopping area of Steinway Street, Eastern Nights is an excellent way to dine on cheap Egyptian food in a relaxed atmosphere. There is a large Egyptian population in Astoria, so count on being surrounded by many Egyptians in the restaurant--making for an even more authentic experience.

2. Check out "Casa La Femme" on 1st Avenue in the East Village. Casa La Femme is located in a stylish neighborhood and has an equally stylish ambiance. If you want excellent branzino (fish), baba ghanoush, and hummus, this is the place to go. Add bonus points for the lovely Egyptian music that is usually softly playing. Sometimes there is even a belly dancer and some live music.

3. Go to "Kabab Cafe" on Steinway Street in Queens. This is another option for Egyptian food in Astoria. This is a great and cheap place to get excellent kababs, as the name would suggest. With a friendly waitstaff and unpretentious vibe, you can really relax and enjoy tasty food and generous portions. Be sure to try the eggeh, which is a golden-brown "egg fritter."

4. Try "Sabry's" on Steinway Street in Queens. Furthering into Astoria's Egyptian delights is Sabry's, a restaurant with a charming Old World essence. The minute you step inside Sabry's, you are warmly greeted by the lovely Egyptian staff. Then you receive hot pitas and tahini dip, which are absolutely delicious. Be sure to try the taojine, which is a seafood stew with a tomato base. It's one of the highlights of the menu, and there are a lot.

5. Eat at "Mombar" on Steinway Street in Queens. Mombar offers diners excellent Egyptian delights like stuffed sausage, garlic quail, and sesame phyllo bread. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with sparkly mosaics on the wall. Between the extensive and fantastic menu, wonderful service, and beautiful decor, Mombar is a must-visit for any Egyptian food lovers.
