Store Wheat Berries

Store Wheat Berries

Wheat berries are whole wheat kernels and offer many nutritional benefits since they contain carbohydrates, B vitamins, iron, fiber, and protein. When cooked, they are chewy with a nutty flavor that is popular in salads, vegetable dishes, soups, or bread. In addition, wheat berries have an extended shelf life and can be easily stored, making them ideal for both emergency food storage as well as every day use. To get the most out of your wheat berries, storing them correctly is essential. Wheat berries can be found both pre-packaged and in bulk at natural food stores.

Instructions

1. Pour the wheat berries into a container with an airtight lid. Keep in a cool, dry, dark place such as a pantry, cold storage room, or basement.

2. Place the wheat berries in an airtight container and keep in a refrigerator if you live in a particularly hot or humid climate.

3. Store cooked wheat berries in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to six days. Cooked wheat berries can also be stored in a sealed bag in the freezer for up to four months.
