Easy Homemade Bbq Sauce

Homemade barbecue sauce can include a variety of ingredients.

This barbecue sauce was made to accompany hamburgers, hot dogs, pork, chicken and beef. The sauce is usually applied to the meat after it has finished cooking. Barbecue sauce also can be used in place of tomato sauce for barbecue pizzas. As with any barbecue sauce recipe, add or remove ingredients according to your taste preferences.

Ingredients

To make this traditional sauce, you will need: 2 cups of ketchup, 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder. Optional ingredients include: 1 finely chopped onion, 2 tablespoons of steak sauce, 2 teaspoons of molasses, salt and pepper to taste and 1 teaspoon of chili powder or cayenne pepper. These ingredients will produce about 18 ounces of barbecue sauce.

Process

Mix all the ingredients together in a medium-sized saucepan. Allow the sauce to simmer on high for a couple of minutes. Reduce the heat. Allow the sauce to simmer on low for 20 minutes. If the sauce is too thick, add water. For a sweeter flavor, add more brown sugar. For a spicier flavor, add more chili powder or cayenne pepper. After the sauce is done, store it in a plastic tub. Refrigeration is not required.

Added Flavoring

If you want a tropical flavor, add orange or pineapple juice. Serve your barbecue meat with grilled pineapple. Molasses or any sweet syrup can be added if you want a sweeter barbecue sauce. Hot sauce can be included if you want a sauce for a spicier style of meat, such as hot wings.
