Make Sugar Cookies Without Flour

Whether you cannot ingest flour or if you discovered that you did not have any in the house, you can still make sugar cookies. These are simple and only require a few ingredients you likely already have on hand. The trick is in the baking. You will need to watch these when they are in the oven carefully since they will burn quickly. These cookies will crumble when you first take them out of the oven, but they harden as they cool. Try these cookies with a large glass of milk or a cup of strong tea. They are very sweet and pair well with other assertive flavors.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

2. Combine the shortening, sugar and egg in a bowl. Mix with an electric mixer until well combined.

3. Freeze the dough for at least 20 to 30 minutes or chill in the refrigerator overnight.

4. Line the cookie sheets with parchment paper.

5. Remove the cookie dough from the freezer. Dish out the dough onto the parchment paper in rounded spoonfuls. If you are using two spoons, scoop the dough with one spoon and push it off with the other spoon to keep your hands clean.

6. Turn the oven down to 300 degrees F.

7. Put the cookie sheet into the oven and bake for 7 to 9 minutes. Turn the cookie sheet 180 degrees in the oven halfway through cooking. Begin to check the cookies after 7 minutes.

8. Remove the cookies from the oven when the edges start to brown.

9. Let the cookies sit on the pan for 1 minute before removing to the baker's cooling rack to cool completely.
