Cook Frozen Bean Curd

Bean curd is also known as tofu. When you freeze it, it takes on a distinctive texture upon cooking. You should allow it to thaw in the microwave or in the refrigerator for several hours before cooking it. The unique texture of frozen bean curd happens since the water inside freezes, forming ice crystals that alter the texture to make the tofu spongy. Here is what to do with your frozen tofu or bean curd.

Instructions

1. Thaw the tofu as you would meat in the refrigerator or the microwave. If using the microwave, thaw it on the DEFROST setting for 3 to 4 minutes.

2. Slice the tofu into ½-inch thick slices. Place the slices into the vegetable broth in a large pan. Heat the broth and bean curd slices on low heat for 15 to 20 minutes. Drain the tofu and squeeze out the extra liquid.

3. Combine the cornstarch and spice mix, such as seasoned salt or Mrs. Dash, in a bowl.

4. Coat the slices of bean curd in the cornstarch and spice mixture.

5. Heat the frying pan with 2 tbsp. oil in it until the oil is hot and sizzling.

6. Place the coated bean curd slices in the hot frying pan and fry for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked all the way through. Serve with your choice of vegetarian side dishes.
