Keep Cut Parsley Fresh

Fresh parsley is critical for many recipes used in everyday cooking like omelets, pizza and spaghetti sauce. Once fresh parsley wilts and yellows, the flavor changes dramatically. The flavor of old parsley may become bland, bitter or grassy tasting. Keeping your fresh cut parsley at optimum freshness takes only a couple steps. You can extend the shelf life of your fresh cut parsley for an additional one to two weeks.


Instructions


1. Purchase only fresh cut parsley at the supermarket. Make sure each leaf is bright green and the stems are not wilted. Any signs of yellowing may indicate the parsley is old and may be fresh.


2. Remove the parsley from the plastic bag it came in. Rinse the parsley under cold water.


3. Place the wet parsley on a paper towel.


4. Wrap the parsley in the paper towel and place in a sealable plastic bag.


5. Seal the bag and place in the vegetable bin.


6. Make sure your fridge's temperature is set to 38 to 41 degrees. Parsley will wilt in warmer temperatures.


7. Check the paper towel each day for moistness. Parsley kept in moist paper towels will last an extra week. Add water if the paper towel becomes too dry.
