Make Candied Pecans

Candied pecans are a tasty treat, combining the delicious flavors of a buttery nut with sugary sweetness. Because candied pecans are simple to make, they don't have to be just for holidays or special occasions. Try these steps for making candied pecans.

Instructions

1. Crack the pecans if using fresh-in-the-shell ones. It takes about 2-1/2 pounds of shell pecans in order to get 1 pound of nutmeats. Be sure to remove any of the dark brown material that can be found in the crevasses of the nuts, as this is bitter. Otherwise, purchase one pound of shelled pecan halves.

2. Pre-heat the oven on low at 225 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. Separate one large egg. Add the egg white to one teaspoon of cold water. This forms an egg wash.

4. Cover the pecans with the egg wash.

5. Combine 1 cup of sugar, ? teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix this with the pecans.

6. Distribute the pecans in one layer on a cookie sheet and place in the oven. Let them cook for 45 minutes, stirring every so often.

7. Raise the oven temperature up to 275 degrees, keeping the pecans in the oven for another 15 minutes.

8. Remove pecans from oven and let cool. Serve.
