The 1960s were a golden age for cocktails. The early part of this decade was a high point for drinking culture with many cocktails created during this period. The 1960s were also a period when vodka first gained popularity. Recently, the television show "Mad Men" has led to a renewed interest in the drinks of the 1960s.
Screwdriver
A fairly simple, staple cocktail, the screwdriver is made by pouring 2 oz. of vodka into a tall glass half filled with ice, topped off with orange juice. Stir the drink and add an orange wedge on the edge for garnish.
Blue Hawaiian
For a tropical twist, pour 1 oz. blue curacao, 1 oz. light rum, 1 oz. cream of coconut and 2 oz. pineapple juice into a blender with 1 cup of ice. Blend the ingredients for a minute and pour the mix into a highball glass. Garnish the drink with a pineapple slice and a cherry.
Moscow Mule
Begin this sweet drink by pouring 1 1/2 oz. vodka over ice in a copper mug or a cocktail glass. Add 1 tsp. sugar syrup and 1/2 oz. lime juice. Fill the glass with ginger ale or ginger beer and stir. Garnish with a lime slice and mint sprig.
