Make Steamed Rice

If you eat Chinese food, then you may want to learn make your own steamed rice. When you steam rice instead of frying it, it becomes a healthier, lower fat alternative. The only things that you need to steam rice are a pot, rice and water.

Instructions

1. Rinse the rice with cold water. Make sure that you drain it well before you continue.

2. Place the rinsed rice into a clean pot with a tight-fitting lid. Rice expands when cooked, so the pot must be large enough to accommodate the amount you're preparing.

3. Add water to the pot. Use double the amount of water as rice. For example, if you use 1 cup of rice, add 2 cups of water.

4. Bring the rice and water to a boil over high heat with the pot uncovered.

5. Cover the rice and reduce the heat to a simmer. Let the rice steam for 10 minutes before checking it. Test the consistency to see if it's soft enough. If the rice is too hard, cover it and add a few drops of water. Check the rice again in 5 minutes.

6. Remove the rice from the heat and fluff it with a fork. Serve the steamed rice immediately.
