Prepare Fruits And Vegetables For Smoothies

Smoothies are a nutritious and easy way to enjoy the recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables. By making smoothies at home, one will ensure the delicious drink contains healthy ingredients rather than fattening additives and corn syrup. The first step to making a great smoothie is to prepare the fruit and vegetables.

Instructions

1. Decide what ingredients will be in the smoothie. Try to mix both frozen and fresh fruit for the perfect frozen delicacy.

2. Rinse fresh fruit and vegetables under running water to remove harmful bacteria. It is not advised to use soap or cleaning solutions on the food. There are fruit and vegetable washes that can be purchased to spray on the produce.

3. Remove dirt from the produce by using a soft, bristled brush. Do not bruise the fruit by applying too much pressure.

4. Check produce for damaged areas that could be hiding harmful bacteria that can cause illness. Cut out and dispose of damaged areas.

5. Cut the fruit in half. Remove any pits or seeds before blending.

6. Chop the ingredients. The smaller the pieces, the smoother the consistency. Ingredients can be cut with a knife, a blender or a food processor.
