Nowadays, it's not always easy to find time to cook for your family. The mornings can be particularly difficult as you are often in a rush to get to work, school or other activities. If you want to serve up a delicious, homemade breakfast, but find you are short on time, a make-ahead casserole may be just the thing for you. Prepare the bulk of the dish the night before and then just pop it in the oven the next morning. You'll be able to smell the wonderful aroma of homemade goodness while you are getting ready for your day.
Instructions
1. Grease the 9 x 13-inch glass baking pan with butter.
2. Lay the slices of bread in the pan, completely covering the bottom of the pan, overlapping them only if necessary.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, half and half, vanilla and cinnamon. Pour egg mixture over the bread slices.
4. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
5. The next morning, pull the dish out of the refrigerator and allow it to set out while you preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
6. Flip each piece of bread over in the baking dish, cover the pan with foil and pop it into the oven once it is preheated. Bake for 20 minutes.
7. While the toast is baking, in a small saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar and corn syrup. Heat over medium high heat until bubbling.
8. Once the 20 minutes is up, pull out the casserole and pour the butter sauce over the bread and egg mixture.
9. Pop the dish back in the oven, uncovered this time and bake for 20 minutes more. Serves 8 to 10.
