Guacamole is a rich dip first prepared in Mexico, first made by the Aztecs in the 16th century. It combines avocados, lime, tomatoes, onions, garlic and fresh herbs and spices for a rich, tangy flavor. Guacamole is traditionally served as an appetizer with tortilla chips or as a toppings on entrees like tacos and burritos. Guacamole can be bought in any grocery store, however, making fresh guacamole from scratch is a treat that's easy to make.
Instructions
1. Cut, peel and remove seeds from avocados. and juice the lime.
2. Scoop avocado pulp and lime juice into a bowl and toss well. Drain the leftover lime juice and save it for later.
3. Mash in salt, cumin, and cayenne with a potato masher. Mash avocados thoroughly for smoother guacamole.
4. Fold in diced onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and garlic.
5. Let the guacamole sit for 1 hour at room temperature, or refrigerate for 1 hour before serving for best flavor.
