Make A Blue Devil Cocktail

A blue devil cocktail is a classic drink that is quite dry and strong in its flavor. Originally called the blue devil because blue food coloring was used to tint the drink, this recipe has removed the blue food coloring a more upscale approach. However, the original measurements remain intact, though some bartenders have always chosen to use only lime or lemon juice instead of the combination of the two. Try the blue devil a few different ways and see what you prefer. This recipe makes one blue devil cocktail.

Instructions

1. Fill a cocktail shaker half-full with crushed ice.

2. Add the dry gin, freshly squeezed lemon juice, freshly squeezed lime juice and maraschino liqueur. Cover the cocktail shaker and shake gently for 20 to 30 seconds. Do not shake too vigorously; you don't want to bruise the alcohol.

3. Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish the glass with a maraschino cherry and serve immediately.
