Make Rainbow Text

Type out text in a rainbow of colors to create a colorful message.

Give a text graphic a colorful rainbow effect, instead of using a solid color. Rainbows consist of the basic primary and secondary colors--red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Assign these colors to each letter in your text in this order, using a graphic editing program. Send your graphic text to someone to say "Happy Birthday" or "I love you." You don't have to spend any money to create a personalize graphic of rainbow text.

Instructions

1. Open a graphic editing program, such as Microsoft Paint, Apple Paintbrush, or the free-to-download Paint.NET. Use a more advanced program if desired. Go to "File" and "New" to create a new blank file with a white background.

2. Select the "Text" tool in the program and click on the blank document where you would like to start the line of rainbow text. Choose the font for your text and the font size from the text toolbar.

3. Type the line of text that you would like to make into a rainbow. Select the first letter by clicking and dragging your mouse over it. Click on the color red in the color palette in the program. Select the second letter and click on the color orange. Continue along the line of text in the same way and add the rest of the colors of the rainbow. If the text continues after the last color, repeat the rainbow again until you run out of letters.

4. Save the file as a .GIF or a .PNG file so you can upload it to the Internet, or attach it to an email to send to someone.
