Make Egyptian Koshari

This is a traditional Egyptian recipes.Easy to make and cheap.


Instructions


1. Koshari or Kushari is a Middle East fast food meal known exactly in Egypt. It is made of a combination of lentils, macaroni, rice, spices and a chili sauce. It is sold by street vendors and can be served at home or in restaurants. It is a cheap meal and easy to be made.


2. To make Koshari please follow the following instructions:


Ingredients:


1 cup brown lentils


1 cup Short grain rice


Water


1 cup small macaroni noodles


Salt


2 tablespoons olive oil


2 cups tomato puree


Hot chili


3. Instructions:


1- Wash lentils under running water then place it in a pot and add 3 cups of water plus the 1 teaspoon salt.


2- Cook lentils in that salted water until tender then drain it and keep it aside.


3- Take another pot and add 4 cups of water and rice and salt. Stirring occasionally Cover and


simmer over low heat for 15 minutes or until tender.


4- Cook macaroni in 3 cups of water and salt until tender, drain it and keep it aside.


5- Place these three ingredients in a cooking pot.


6- Fry onions (in a separate pan) to a rich brown, then remove the onions onto absorbent paper and strain the oil into the lentil mixture.


7- Return the pot to the flame and cook for 10 minutes.


8- Toss together lightly with a fork.


9- Pour hot tomato sauce on top of, each individual's plate, and fried onions.


10- Sprinkle with hot chili
