Create Your Own Snack Mix

Creating your own snack mix means you have total control over the ingredients. You can make the mix as salty, sweet or spicy as you like. You can also use healthy, low-sodium alternatives or sugar-free substitutes to cut out calories found in store-bought pre-made snack mixes. Making your own snack mix also can save you money over buying pre-made snack mixes. Some recipes call for liquid flavorings which then require baking, but you can also make a no-bake version of a snack mix in just a few minutes.

Instructions

1. Wash your hands well before preparing the mix. Place a large bowl on your kitchen table or counter, as well as any ingredients you may wish to add to the snack mix.

2. Fill the bowl half full of the main ingredient. This can be a dry crunchy cereal of some kind.

3. Add some nuts to the mixture, stirring them in with a serving spoon. You can use as many or as few nuts as you wish.

4. Add pretzel sticks or any other crunchy, salty item of your choice. It may be easier to mix these in with your hands, rather than the spoon.

5. Pour in some chocolate chips or candy-covered chocolates, if you want chocolate in your snack mix. You can use sugar-free varieties if you are on a sugar-free diet. Alternatively, you can use dried fruits such as raisins in your snack mix.

6. Measure the mix into plastic bags, plastic containers or glass jars and then seal or cover to keep in the freshness. Store the snack mix in a dry area to keep it crisp and fresh.
