Make The Absolute Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Yum!

A grilled cheese sandwich is the ultimate comfort food. It's great with soup, with chips or just by itself. Follow these instructions and you will never make grilled cheese any other way.

Instructions

1. Select the right ingredients. The bread should be hearty. Sourdough or wheat bread is good but don't use bread that is too soft and squishy. The cheese should be smoky cheddar. American or plain cheddar is okay but smoky cheddar will take it over the top in flavor. The Parmesan cheese should be freshly shredded or grated, no powdery cheese from a can. Use butter, not margarine, not fake spread.

2. Take two slices of bread and butter one side of each. Place enough cheese between the slices to fully cover the bread. Use your preference on how thick you want the cheese.

3. Place a skillet or griddle on the stove and heat it until fairly hot. Sprinkle enough Parmesan cheese in the pan to fit the size of the sandwich then place the sandwich over the cheese. (If you place the cheese on the bread and turn it to place in the pan, the cheese will fall off.)

4. Heat until the sandwich is browned on the underside. While it's heating, sprinkle Parmesan on the top of the sandwich. Use a spatula to gently push the sandwich flat so it will brown evenly.

5. Flip the sandwich when browned. By this time the entire sandwich should be hot enough that the top cheese won't fall off. Continue heating until the other side is well browned. Remove from heat, slice in half and enjoy the best grilled cheese sandwich of your life.
