Making A Ham Spread With Leftover Christmas Ham

Turn ham into a spreadable condiment for sandwiches or appetizer tables.

Breathe new life into the leftovers from a holiday dinner. Take what's left of your Christmas ham and transform it into a spread for ham sandwiches. Ham spread is more flavorful the day after you make it because the flavors meld, and you can choose from a wide range of flavoring ingredients in the spread. Instead of preparing ham sandwiches with leftover slices, spread on the ham for a new twist on a leftovers recipe.

Instructions

Ham and Swiss

1. Pulse leftover ham in a food processor until it is finely ground. Set aside 2 cups ground ham for the recipe.

2. Stir together the ground ham, one-quarter cup mayonnaise, one-quarter cup paprika and 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese.

3. Cover and refrigerate the spread overnight to combine the flavors. Bring the spread to room temperature to serve.

Sweet and Savory

4. Pulse leftover ham in a food processor to produce 2 cups ground ham. Remove the ham from the food processor.

5. Add 3 ounces cream cheese, 3 tbsp. brown sugar and 2 tbsp. spicy brown mustard to the food processor and pulse to combine the mixture.

6. Stir the cream cheese mixture into the ground ham and refrigerate overnight in a covered dish.

7. Serve the spread at room temperature.

Fruity Spread

8. Grind leftover ham in a food processor to make 2 cups ground ham.

9. Mix together 3 ounces cream cheese with one-quarter cup chunky applesauce, one-eighth tsp. ground cloves and one-quarter tsp. cinnamon to evenly combine. Add 2 tablespoons brown sugar to the cream cheese mixture for a sweeter spread.

10. Stir the cream cheese and applesauce mixture into the ground ham and chill overnight.

Serve the spread at room temperature.
