Prepare Meat On A Himalayan Salt Block

Rather than season your steak with a shake from a salt shaker or a dusting of kosher salt applied to the top, infuse your meat with salt by cooking the meat directly on a block of salt. Himalayan salt blocks are rectangular rocks made of edible, pink-colored salt. These add a light, salty flavor into the meat through residual heating after warming the block in an oven. Cook any type of meat, fish or vegetables on top of a salt block for a flavorful way to create a meal right at your dinner table in front of your guests.

Instructions

1. Place the Himalayan salt block onto the middle rack of your oven. Heat the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Heat the salt block for 30 minutes. While waiting, place a trivet on the table where you want to cook.

3. Use heavy-duty oven mitts to remove the Himalayan salt block from the oven and transfer it to the trivet.

4. Place your meat on the hot salt block and heat on both sides as you would in a dry frying pan or skillet. Sear paper-thin slices of meat on both sides for one minute per side or until no longer pink.

5. Remove and serve the meat.

6. Wait until the salt block cools completely. Rinse it and wipe it dry with a paper towel to remove a small amount of salt from the top layer of the block. This cleans the block for future use.
