What Cheeses Mix Well With Blue Cheese

Mix blue cheese and feta cheese on your salad.

Blue (or bleu) cheese is a sharp, often salty cheese that has mold cultures injected while the cheese ages. The bacteria that results causes a strong, distinct odor. People who enjoy blue cheese often mix it with other cheeses to either temper the strong taste or enhance it.

Cream Cheese

As a relatively soft cheese, blue cheese works well with other soft cheeses. It is often paired with cream cheese when making a cheese ball for a party, or when it is stuffed inside an entree, such as chicken. Mix softened blue cheese and cream cheese for a yummy spread for crackers, pita chips or fruit.

Cheddar

Mixing cheddar, especially sharp cheddar, with blue cheese can produce surprisingly tasty results. Mix the two with some cream cheese and roll in nuts for an unexpectedly tangy cheese ball. Also, mix cheddar and blue cheese with some milk and white wine, then heat slowly to melt the cheese evenly for an unforgettable fondue.

Feta

Feta is a mild, soft cheese that pairs well with blue cheese. Mix softened blue cheese, feta cheese, mayonnaise and light cream in a blender for a fabulous salad dressing. For a mild and strong mix, crumble both cheeses on your salad with a light vinaigrette dressing. Mix marscapone, feta and blue cheese with some dill for a tasty cracker spread.

Gruyere

Gruyere is a hard yellow cheese usually used in baking. Mix it with some blue cheese, milk and pasta for an amazing baked macaroni and cheese dish. Slice some pears onto a pizza crust and sprinkle with Gruyere and blue cheese for a surprisingly refreshing snack. Top some French baguette slices with both cheeses and melt under the broiler for about two minutes for a tasty soup accompaniment.
