Create your marinade.
Venison, or deer meat, is a high-protein, low-fat alternative to beef. Venison from the wild has other advantages in that no harmful chemicals or hormones have been administered throughout the life of the animal. The downside of wild deer, however, is the meat can be quite tough and stringy if not prepared properly. Marinating can help tenderize the texture as well as remove the gaminess of the flavor. Once known as the food of royalty in ancient times, venison can now be enjoyed economically by anyone.
Instructions
1. Combine the vinegar, garlic and salt in a bowl or pan large enough to hold your cut of meat. Place the venison in the bowl and roll in the marinade. Add enough water to cover the contents.
2. Cover the marinade container with tin foil or a lid to avoid contamination. Place the venison in the refrigerator and marinate overnight.
3. After marinating, remove the deer meat from the container and prepare as instructed per your chosen method. Roasting, stewing and grilling are all good methods for venison. Additional seasoning will be needed, as the marinade is used mainly to tenderize, not flavor your meat.
