No one knows for sure how Wally Amos made his original chocolate chip cookies. What is known is it was a family recipe that Amos turned into a mega-business in the 1970s and 1980s. It literally made him famous and very rich. Amos himself said so in a guest shot in the "Latka's Cookies" episode of the classic sitcom "Taxi." This version uses the same basic ingredients and should produce about a dozen cookies. If there's no need to make the cookies immediately, freeze the unbaked dough. It will keep for 4 months in the freezer.
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Use an electric mixer on high speed to cream the butter until it is light and fluffy.
3. Beat in the sugars with the butter until you have a very creamy mix. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then each of the ingredients except for the chocolate and pecans.
4. When the dough is smooth enough, use a wooden spoon to work in the chocolate and pecans.
5. Make grape-size dough balls and place them 1-inch apart on an un-greased cookie sheet. Bake the cookies for 14 minutes. They're done when they're golden brown.
