Bake Potatoes Fast

If time is not on your side, the fastest way to bake a potato is in the microwave.

Potatoes are a popular and diverse food item used for centuries. One of the most common methods of preparation, from the home kitchen to restaurants, is a baked potato. However, baking potatoes in a traditional oven can take time. The best way to enjoy a baked potato quickly is to bake it in the microwave.

Instructions

1. Wash the potatoes in the sink using cold water to remove dirt and debris. Use a vegetable brush or use your hands. Pat the potatoes dry with a towel or paper towel.

2. Puncture the potatoes with a fork several times, including once on each side and the top and bottom, to allow the steam to escape when baking. Place in a microwave-safe dish or on a microwave-safe plate, and place the potatoes in the microwave.

3. Microwave a single potato for seven to 10 minutes depending on size. The general rule is a 7-oz. potato will take seven minutes to bake. Multiple potatoes will require more time, approximately four additional minutes per potato. Let the potatoes rest when the cooking cycle completes to allow them to finish baking.

4. Test the potatoes by inserting a knife in the center. The knife should enter easily, and you can feel the potato for softness. Add more time in the microwave in one- or two-minute increments until done.

5. Remove the potatoes from the microwave. Slit the side of each potato with a knife. Break the potatoes apart with a fork.
