Make Bug Cupcakes

Make some sweet, loveable cupcake bugs for your little one's next birthday party. These edible bugs will be as fascinating to look at as they are to eat. In fact, you might have to remind the kids that they're for munching, not for playing.

Instructions

1. Bake one batch of chocolate cupcakes in paper cupcake liners and allow them to cool.

2. Prepare a batch of white cake frosting, and divide it into five small bowls. Use the food coloring to tint each one a different pastel color.

3. Neatly slice the rounded top off of the cupcakes with a serrated knife, and then slice each top in half. Set them aside, because they will be the wings.

4. Frost the cupcakes and use a small amount of frosting to attach the halves back on the tops, placing them slightly askew so they look like wings.

5. Refrigerate the cupcakes for about 30 minutes until they are firm and the wings stay on securely.

6. Make bug heads from the gumdrops and antennae from the licorice string. Snip the licorice string into small pieces about ?-inch long. Poke two holes on opposite sides of each gumdrop, and poke the licorice strip into the holes.

7. Frost the wings in the colors of your choice, and decorate them with the pastry bags filled with colored frosting of your choice.
