Save Adobo Sauce

Enhance enchiladas with adobo sauce.

Adobo is a Spanish sauce typically made with a combination of vinegar, vegetable oil, minced garlic and seasonings such as paprika, cumin and oregano. You can spice up the tangy red sauce with the addition of chipotle peppers, which are dried and smoked jalapenos. Adobo sauce is used to marinate and flavor meats such as pork tenderloin, steak and chicken. The sauce also provides extra flavor to Mexican dishes such as burritos and enchiladas. Store homemade or store-bought adobo sauce properly to keep it for weeks or months.

Instructions

1. Transfer homemade or opened, commercially prepared adobo sauce to a glass storage container; the red sauce may stain plastic products.

2. Seal the container with an airtight plastic lid. Label the container with the product's storage date as a handy reminder.

3. Store the container of sauce in a refrigerator set at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below for up to one month.

4. Keep an unopened bottle or can of adobo sauce in your pantry for up to two years.
