Make Lo-Fat Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal With Brown Sugar
Oatmeal is a great way to start your day! With the massive amount of recipes out there, you actually have a wide variety to choose from that will please most taste palates. However, many of the ready-made flavored oatmeal cereals are prepared with a lot of additives, which calculates to a lot of extra and unwanted calories. This recipe will show you make your own flavored oatmeal without all the calories and additives.
Instructions
1. Combine 1 cup of water, 3/4 cup of unsweetened apple juice, 2 tablespoons of currants and 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon in a saucepan; bring to a boil.
2. Add 3/4 cup of oats and the powdered milk or non-fat milk with mixture; cook over medium heat for approximately 8 minutes, stirring occasionally to avoid oatmeal sticking to the bottom of the pan.
3. Remove the oatmeal mixture from heat; add the chopped apples and 1 1/2 teaspoons of brown sugar.
4. Cover the oatmeal with a lid and let stand for approximately 5 minutes to give the apples time to soften.
5. This dish yields about 4 servings. There are about 131 calories per 1/2 cup serving.
