Take Away Some Of The Saltiness In The Jarred Classico Vodka Sauce

There are a few ways to take the saltiness away from the Vodka sauce.

The Classico brand sells jarred sauces including Alfredo, red bruschetta and pesto sauce. One of the sauces it sells is a vodka sauce; which is a traditional red sauce with a bit of vodka mixed in. The Classico Vodka sauce contains 420 milligrams of salt per serving. While you can't take the salt out of the sauce, there are ways to hide or take away some of the salty flavor.

Instructions

1. Pour the jarred sauce into a pan on the stove and let it simmer on low to medium-low heat.

2. Add a small amount of sugar. Start with about 1/4 teaspoon at a time. Stir in the sugar to make sure it has completely dissolved and taste it. If it's still too salty, add another 1/4 teaspoon to the sauce. Taste after each addition. You can always add sugar, but if the sauce ends up too sweet, it's difficult to take that sweetness away.

3. Cut a potato into one-inch cubes and wrap it in cheesecloth. Tie off the cheesecloth and place the bundle into the sauce. Let the potatoes simmer, until they become soft, but not mushy. Fish out the potato bundle which should have absorbed some of the saltiness.

4. Put something that's got a bit of fat into the sauce like plain yogurt, unsalted butter or olive oil. The fat

will help hide the salty flavor.
