Get Free Food Help

Get free assistance for getting food for your household.

Could you use some free groceries or free food assistance? Are you down to slim pickings in your cupboards and fridge and you don't have money to go out and buy groceries? Tough economic times can make it hard to keep food in the house, but there are options for assistance available to help get you through.

Instructions

1. If you are familiar with any local free foodbanks, those will be your best starting place. Contact them and find out what you need to do to come in and pick up some free food. Often, food banks will provide you with several free grocery bags of your basics and some not-so-basic groceries, depending on what they have available at that exact time.

2. Contact your church or other local churches and find out if they can recommend places outside of the foodbanks that can help with free groceries. Explain your situation and why you are not able to use the foodbanks, and there is a good chance you can find a church to do a one-time help with some free food supplies.

3. Visit your local government assistance department and apply for food stamps or find out if you qualify for services such as Meals on Wheels or any other services that will provide you with free food help. This is what services such as these are here for -- to provide assistance to those who are truly in need. Make sure you let them know you require emergency food assistance. This will speed up the process, and you can typically see help within 5 working days.

4. Some foodbanks will be able to provide free food service programs such as soup kitchens, where they serve meals several times a week. This may come in handy if you are waiting to be able to visit a foodbank or get food stamps.
