Make Natural Nonfried Cheese Wontons

Baking cheese wontons is healthier than deep-fried wontons.

Cheese-filled, crunchy wonton appetizers do not have to be greasy, deep-fried, or full of artificial ingredients. Use natural products with ingredients you can pronounce. Instead of frying, bake the wontons for a healthier treat. Wonton skins made from all natural ingredients are available in health food stores and some supermarkets.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Brush a baking sheet with 2 tbsp. olive oil using a pastry brush.

2. Cook the spinach in a covered saucepan in 2 inches of water for two minutes or until wilted. Remove the spinach from the saucepan and chop it roughly.

3. Combine the spinach with the cream cheese in a bowl. Add the soy sauce or pepper sauce, if desired.

4. Place a single wonton skin on a work surface. Spoon 1 tsp. of the spinach and cheese filling into the center of the wonton skin.

5. Bring the edges of the wonton up over the filling to resemble a drawstring bag or purse. Pinch the wrapper just above the filling to seal the wonton. Alternatively, fold the wonton wrapper in half to form a triangle over the filling. Pinch the edges to seal. Repeat with the remaining wontons.

6. Arrange the wontons on a baking sheet. Brush the wontons with the remaining olive oil.

7. Bake the wontons for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and the wontons will become crisp as they cool.
