Build A Wine Cellar Rack

Wine Rack

If you find that your wine collection is increasing, but you're running out of space, it might be time to build a wine rack to store your spirits. A wine rack will keep your bottles neat, safe and easily accessible to you when you would like to access a bottle. This article explains build a basic wine rack.

Instructions

1. If your wine collection is relatively small, it is best to start with a simple table top wine rack. This is easily made in a short amount of time, at minimal expense. Create what will loosely resemble a book shelf frame out of your wood. You can use a hammer and nails to secure the shelves, or you can use a nail gun for faster assembly.

2. Do not add a back to your shelves, leave your frame as an open air design. Ensure that your rack is sturdy before moving on to the next step.

3. On each shelf, add two strips of wood with three inches of separation in between each pair of wood strips, perpendicular to the front of the frame. Repeat across the shelf until you are out of room. Each pair of wood strips will serve as a secure resting place for each bottle of wine.

4. Sand all of the surfaces and edges of the wine rack with the sander, paying special attention to the corners and sharp edges. Begin with a coarse paper, and finish with a finer grit to ensure smoothness and uniformity.

5. Use a wood stain of your choice to stain the wood and make your wine shelf more attractive. Varnish to protect once the stain is dry.

6. Alternatively, you can purchase a wine rack kit online or in most home improvement stores which come with everything you need to make either a standard wine cellar rack, a wine bin, wine cube or other wine storage.
