Margarita Machine Directions

Margarita machines chop the ice for your frozen drinks.

New margarita machines come with directions that tell you exactly use the machine. But if you borrowed a margarita machine from a friend, purchased a used one or just lost your instructions, you might get frustrated figuring out use it. While the exact steps differ from brand to brand and model to model, the basic steps for operating a margarita machine are pretty similar for every machine.

Instructions

1. Make sure you have all the ingredients. This list will vary depending on what margarita flavor you're making. Generally, there are three main components to a traditional margarita: tequila, triple sec and lime juice. Most recipes recommend using three parts tequila to one part triple sec. You will need about the same amount of lime juice (fresh or concentrate) as tequila, but can add more if you prefer. You can also add premixed fruit flavoring, fruit puree or ice to put a different spin on your drink. There are many variations of margarita machines. Some have separate mixing drums and blenders instead of a single piece. Others do not require ice but will chill or freeze the mix. A commercial margarita machine---like one you would rent from a party supply store---can hold up to five gallons, enough for several dozen servings. Smaller machines designed for at-home use typically hold around one gallon, which should make more than 10 6-oz. drinks.

2. Place the machine on a flat surface. Some machines may not work properly if they are tilted.

3. Add all the ingredients to the large drum on the top of the unit. Again, these ingredients will vary depending on your personal taste.

4. Place the lid securely on top of the drum. Make sure it fits snugly in place.

5. Turn the machine's power button to the "On" position. The machine will begin to grind the ice (if you added ice to your mixture) and blend the ingredients. You will know this process is finished when the machine stops making a loud grinding noise. Turn the machine off before emptying the contents and serving.
