A Chopped Iceberg Lettuce Salad

Use eggs as a healthy topping for an iceberg lettuce salad.

Salads made with iceberg lettuce are a healthy alternative to fattening meals, snacks and sweets. You can add any toppings to your iceberg lettuce salad including fruits, vegetables, chicken, fish and nuts to your liking. Additionally, iceberg lettuce salads can contain any type of salad dressing or simply oil and vinegar. As such, create an iceberg lettuce salad that most suits your tastes and dietary needs using your favorite toppings and dressing.

Instructions

1. Clean the head of lettuce. To do so, remove the iceberg lettuce from its outer plastic wrap by cutting and peeling the plastic away from the lettuce. Follow by rinsing the head of lettuce underneath cold water for 15 to 20 seconds and rub any dirt off of it using your hands. Continue to rinse the lettuce until it is completely clean.

2. Place the lettuce face down onto a clean surface and allow the water to drain out of it for five minutes. Complete drying the lettuce by removing excess moisture with a paper towel.

3. Locate the core in the center of the iceberg lettuce. The core is the red-colored part of the lettuce, which is hard to the touch.

4. Remove the core of the lettuce by smashing the core against a hard surface to loosen the core. Complete by twisting and pulling the core out of the head of lettuce.

5. Chop the leaves into medium-sized pieces using the chopping knife. Begin by pulling the lettuce apart so that the leaves are separated from one another. Arrange the leaves so that they are aligned with one another to chop even pieces. Finish by placing the chopped lettuce into the large bowl.

6. Add your fruit or vegetable toppings to the salad. Rinse off any fruit or vegetable toppings you wish to include in the salad under cool water until completely clean. Chop your toppings into small to medium-sized pieces and add them to the bowl containing the lettuce.

7. Pour your desired salad dressing over the lettuce and toppings, using as much or as little as you like.Toss the salad evenly, distributing the dressing over the lettuce and toppings using tongs or two large spoons.
