Fresh Potatoes for this Recipe
Making your own oven baked fries is easy with this simple guide. Using healthy olive oil and baking instead of frying, makes this recipe for oven baked fries easy, healthy, and tasty.
Instructions
1. Begin by thoroughly washing eight large potatoes. Potatoes can be peeled or unpeeled depending on your preference. We like to use Russet potatoes, but the smaller red potatoes, or even the Yukon Gold potatoes are good. Using a large chopping knife, slice potatoes lengthwise and then slice again to make thin fry shaped wedges. You should have about twenty thin wedges from each potato.
2. Once all the potatoes are sliced into wedges, place them into a large mixing bowl. Add the 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil. You can use other cooking oils if you don't have the EVOO. Then, toss the fries with your hands to ensure they are evenly coated with oil.
3. Next, add your seasoning ingredients (salt, garlic and onion powder, and black pepper) to the potato wedges. Another option for seasoning these oven baked fries is with a pre-prepared seasoning mix such as Mrs. Dash, or a savory herb mixture used for seasoning poultry. Anyway, toss the fries again by hand to distribute the seasonings evenly.
4. Spray your large baking sheet with the non stick cooking spray. Be sure to get a good even coating of cooking spray on the baking sheet, or the fries might stick. Spread the seasoned fries evenly on the baking pan and place in your pre heated (400 degree F) oven. Set your oven timer for ten minutes.
5. After your oven fries have baked for ten minutes, remove the baking sheet from the oven and use a spatula to turn the seasoned fries over. Put the fries back in the oven and add ten more minutes to your oven timer.
6. After the final ten minutes of baking, remove the oven baked fries and allow them to cool for a few minutes before serving. You can season them more if they aren't tasty enough for you. Just use caution and don't overpower the baked fries with spices.
